Menu Planning with the MARTIN’S Ad

I have had a crazy week and I have not had the time to search for new recipes so I am going to share some generic recipes that should work with some of the items on sale and that are always well received by my crew.

Menu planning and saving money really can go hand-in-hand.  It is important to realize that you can still enjoy some of your family’s favorite meals by menu planning with a sales flyer, you just need to be flexible.

I am including ideas and recipes for four meals for the week.  As I’ve mentioned before, I have found that I really only cook on average four meals a week and that we end up having at least one left-over night, one meal out, and something easy like homemade pizza or breakfast for dinner.

Spaghetti & Meatballs:

I always have pasta in my pantry and spaghetti sauce in my pantry that I can pull out and make a quick dinner.  If you don’t have pasta grab a box of the San Giorgio that is on sale for $1 this week.  The Mama Lucia Meatballs are on sale buy 1 get 1 free this week so get both bags and you have a back up for the next busy night or when you need to take a meal to a friend.  The Dole Salad Kits are $2.50 a bag and if you want a loaf of fresh Italian bread it is on sale or $1.99 in the bakery.

Turkey Tacos:

I have mentioned before that if your family is still hesitant about trying ground turkey “hiding it” in taco seasoning can really disguise what they are eating.  The Ortega kits are $2 each this week and only $1.50 if you buy 2 and use the $0.50/2 coupon from the 4/17 SmartSource insert.  If you just want the seasoning mix it is only $0.17 each with the same coupon.  The ground turkey is on sale for just $3 for a 20.8oz package.  It also freezes well if you want to pick up an extra one for a future meal.  If you didn’t get the shredded cheese last week the GIANT brand is on sale for $1.67 a bag this week.

Pot Roast in the Slow Cooker:

I shared this recipe about 2 months ago.  The really great thing about using your slow cooker now that it is starting to get warmer outside is that it doesn’t heat up your house like an oven does.  The Chuck Roast is $2.99/lb. and GIANT brand red potatoes are $3.49 for a 5lb. bag and the baby carrots are on sale for $1.67 for a 1-lb. bag.  The beauty of this dish is that you already have your vegetables and potatoes cooked with the meat for a complete meal.  I like to add some color to our plates and would pull a bag of frozen veggies out of the freezer or grab the GIANT brand SteamReady Vegetables.

BLT Night:

I love BLT’s – they are great and you can try creative ways of making it your own.  THe Kunzler bacon is on sale this week for $3.99 pair that with the tomatoes that are $1.99/lb and you have the start to a BLT.  I personally don’t like tomatoes so I add different items like sliced cheese, or crumbled blue cheese.  I think the key is soft fresh bread (select Arnold brand varieties are 50% off this week), crisp bacon, a little bit of mayo (or Miracle Whip if you prefer) and the crunch of crisp lettuce.  I am wiping the drool off my keyboard right now.  :)

Happy Menu Planning!

MARTIN’S Celebrates mothers every day!–$25 prepaid VISA offer

image

The deal states that the dollar amount (or points) towards the $100 are cumulative so you can plan out your shopping (and your budget) over the 3 weeks of the promotion.  The number of points accumulated will appear at the bottom of your receipt.  I also saw where you can check it on-line if you have registered your BONUSCARD.

I have not bought any items towards this deal yet (I am thinking about buying the diapers with the free wipes), but I read on-line that like previous promotions the points accumulated are based on the sale price, not what you spend after coupons.  This is a great way to stock-up on items that you use and earn a gift card to treat yourself to a little something like maybe a dinner out (where kids eat free.) :)

Here are more details (from the MARTIN’S website) about the promotion, how to receive your prepaid VISA,  and the brands included.

**Don’t forget that there is also a new P&G brandSAVER insert in tomorrow’s paper. **

I wanted to look at recipes this week that featured ham.  If you aren’t preparing a ham for your Easter meal it is still a good time to pick-up one.  This week’s price for ham is a good stock-up price. (I haven’t tried it, but I have read they will keep well in your freezer for two months.)  We probably won’t see it on sale again until Thanksgiving and Christmas.

fuelperks!– Deals for the week of April 10th

The price of gas is increasing almost daily.  You can stock-up at the grocery store and save money at the gas station with fuelperks!.  In Richmond there is a limit of 20 gallons per fill-up, I have read that areas outside of Richmond can get up to 30 gallons.  If your vehicle doesn’t take 20 (or 30) gallons you can bring gas cans to fill for additional vehicles or your lawnmower.  For additional information on the fuelperks! program read this – please remember that the program works differently in other areas, these are the details for the stores located in Richmond, VA.

MARTIN’S–fuelperks! Deals for the week of April 3rd

image

I don’t usually post or really pay attention to the fuelperks! deals.  I honestly haven’t seen any that I thought were really things that really made it worth the gas savings.  But, as the gas prices are increasing the additional money off per gallon can really help lower the cost you pay at the pump.  If your vehicle doesn’t take 20 gallons (the limit of the fill-up with a fuelperks! discount)  you can bring gas cans to fill for your lawnmower and maximize your savings.

MARTIN’S Update–Buy $20 get $7 off instantly

I shared the details of this deal in a post I wrote last night.  Reader Lissa sent me a note this evening about a second deal that she uncovered today.

I think I may have stumbled on a deal this afternoon! I bought 8 boxes of Nature Valley crunchy granola bars @ $2.50 each, for a total of $20. Then I got my $7 back, used 4 .75/2 coupons, which brought my total down to $9.75. After I checked out, I got 2 $4 Catalinas for my next order! I read that the Cats were working on the Betty Crocker fruit snacks, but I didn't expect it on the granola bars. That made my out of pocket $1.75 for 8 boxes of granola bars! Yay!

I also ran into MARTIN’S tonight on our way home from church and got 8 boxes of Nature Valley granola bars just like Lissa’s scenario and also got 2 $4 Catalinas.  The Betty Crocker/General Mills snacks (granola bars and fruit snacks) are giving the Catalina when you buy them in groups of 4.  I haven’t tried it but I saw on-line that the deal rolls, meaning that you can use your $4 Catalina on another round of Granola bars if you want.   I haven’t found granola bars for less than $0.50 a box in a while so I am excited – even if it is 5 Weight Watchers PointsPlus for 2 bars.  :)

MARTIN’S–Saving today. Preserving tomorrow. Earn a $10 Prepaid MasterCard

image

Purchase $30 worth of participating P&G products in one transaction and receive a FREE $10 Prepaid MasterCard by mail.  There is a lot of fine print on this ad, but it essentially says that it is on valid at Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets.  The mail-in offer must include your original cash register receipt.  The $30 must be met after all discounts are applied (meaning sale prices not regular prices).  Limit one per household.

Papa John’s $4 Cheese Pizza on Saturday

image

I am fairly certain this is only available in Richmond, but what a great deal!

I copied this from my e-mail so you can’t click on the “click here” link in the graphic.  Just use the code on-line or call to make sure your local Papa John’s is participating.

Go Rams!

MARTIN’S–Coca-Cola Deal

image

Fine Print: Save $5 off your next order when you buy $15 worth of participating products after discounts and coupons.  Plus look for a My Coke Rewards code for a Free Coca-Cola Zero Basketball.  In a single transaction with your BONUSCARD between 3/27 –4/2/11.  Coupon will print at register.

This deal is different from the General Mills, Big Appetites for Big Savings, and March Manliness because the $5 doesn’t come off instantly.  It is a Catalina (a coupon that prints out at check-out) for $5 off your next order.  These do have expiration dates so don’t hold onto them for too long.

I couldn’t find any coupons for any of these items available.  There are lots of coupons listed but they are from sources such as hangtags and tearpads.

Did you find any coupons for these items?  Did you figure out a good scenario?  What do you get when you redeem your Coke Rewards?  Steve set-up a Coke Rewards account, and because I don’t generally drink soda and he keeps them at work I let him handle those rewards.  I do know one person who collected enough codes to go to Six Flags.

Fine Print: Buy $15 in participating products below *After discounts and coupons in a single transaction with your BONUSCARD between 3/27 and 4/2/11* and get $5 off instantly at checkout.

In the past the $15 usually was just after discounts (which is another term for sale) and not coupons. I don’t know exactly how that is working, and honestly I am not planning on buying $15 worth of these products to do a test run and report back.  I read on Hot Coupon World that people were able to make the purchases with coupons and get the $5 off.  Have any of you tried this deal with coupons?

Speaking of coupons, here is a list of the items included in the promotion and the coupons available.
