I saved 70% at MARTIN’S

Martin's_Logo I mentioned several weeks ago that MARTIN’S did a huge mailing to all residents with zip codes near the newly remodeled stores.  They published store coupons with staggered dates so they could get shoppers in the stores about once a week for the next month.  These coupons have been great!  I used the ones for this week last night when we hit the store after being out-of-town for several days.  I got $3 off my purchases of $30 or more, a free 45 oz Ragu pasta sauce, and a free 1-lb box of San Giorgio Macaroni.

Have you seen this coupon booklet?

DSC_3813 I found it sitting on a table when they had employees registering customers for MARTIN’S cards.  I also saw some sitting at the Service Center desk (formerly customer service).  The coupons are for MARTIN’S Store brand items, but I saved $17 last night and got lots of free and almost-free items with the coupons.  The coupons require you to spend a minimum of $15 after all discounts and before tax.  I was able to use multiple coupons from the booklet along with my coupons from the Richmond area mailer together in one transaction.

Here is a picture of my purchases from last night:

I will let you know what I think about the MARTIN’S store brand items as we try them out.  I was really hesitant to buy the diapers, I have always been a “Pampers Snob” after having bad luck with a couple of other brands when the girls were each small.  I figured that for $2.99 if I don’t like them I will leave them in the church nursery.

Have you tried any of the MARTIN’S brands?  Did you like them, or notice a difference?

Exciting News!

One of my favorite blogs to read is Money Saving Mom.  She has lots of great tips, promotions, and coupon deals.  She recently added a sidebar to her blog that features deals at your local stores.  She has bloggers who cover the deals for local or regional stores give her the top deals for the week at that store and then links them from her blog.  I realized that she didn’t have anyone featuring MARTIN’S and sent a note to her site asking if I could be a contributor.  They accepted my request.  :)  So, beginning this Monday, May 31st.  I will be submitting the top 4-7 deals for MARTIN’S to Money Saving Mom.  Hopefully this will also give me the “deadline” to finish up my match-ups in a more timely fashion.

By the way – if you haven’t checked out Money Saving Mom it is a super informative blog.  I highly recommend it!

MARTIN'S Coupon Match-ups

I am about 3/4 of the way done with the match-ups but in true "Ann fashion" I have had a busy week getting ready for 3 celebrations this week (a retirement party, a bridal shower, and a birthday party).  I also had a 3 hour doctor's appointment this morning and have to work this evening.  I will try my best to have them finished and posted tonight after I get home.  Thanks for bearing with me!

MARTIN'S Coupon Policy

•MARTIN’S will double manufacturer coupons up to $0.50 everyday.
  • MARTIN’S will only double one “like” manufacturer coupon. (This means that even if you buy two bags of frozen veggies in the same transaction and have two coupons only one will double the other will be honored at the face value.)
  • Edited 3/29/11: I had read on-line that people were able to buy multiples of the same item and have the coupon double in the same shopping trip if they broke up the like items and coupons into separate orders.  I recently decided to test this by buying the exact same thing with the exact same coupon in two back to back transactions.  It worked!!!  I had a very patient cashier and no one else in line behind me, otherwise I would encourage you to use a self check-out line.

•MARTIN’S will “double” the difference of a coupon with a value of $0.51-$0.99 and $1 to give you up to $1 off. (I have had $0.55 coupons that “doubled” $0.45 giving me $1 off.)

•MARTIN’S does accept internet printable (IP) coupons up to a face value of $5, they do not accept IP coupons for a “free” item. This includes buy one get one free.

•You must buy both items to get the free item with buy one get one free promotions. (You can’t buy one item at “half price”.)

•If you are buying 2 items with a buy one get one free promotion you can still use a coupon that covers both items.

If you still have questions feel free to check out the MARTIN'S website

Making Strawberry Jam

This past Fall I had two posts about learning how to make and can my own applesauce and apple butter.  If you want to re-live my journey here and here are the links.  I realized that canning really isn’t that hard, it just takes some time.  I also learned that the time and effort involved is well worth it when you get to enjoy the final product.

With Spring fruits now available I figured what better way to try my hand at canning again than with strawberry jam.  I did the research on-line and found several different places that we could go to locally pick our own strawberries.  Unfortunately, the day that the weather worked out for us was the day I had to work.  Steve, being the great and fun dad that he is took the girls with some friends of ours.  I was really bummed that I missed out on the fun.  They came home with lots of strawberries.  Natalie especially was very excited about making jam with the strawberries that she helped to pick.  I had to work the next day also and made sure that before I came home from work that I had all the supplies so that we could spend the following day making jam.  I came home and the flat of strawberries were sitting outside on the ground.  I asked Steve why and he explained to me that the entire flat was rotten and had started to grow mold.  Yuck!  (Natalie actually noticed if when she got up from her nap and told Steve that the strawberries had cotton on them.)

It was cold and rainy for the next 2 days so the girls and I couldn’t go pick more strawberries.  I did some more research on-line and found out that there is a Farmer’s Market near us on Wednesday afternoons.  The girls and I went to visit and came home with 4 quarts of strawberries from Agriberry.  A local farm that is a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).

Here is a picture of the strawberries we purchased:

DSC_3580

Yes – they were as yummy as they look!

I had helpers with mashing the berries for the jam.  Can you believe I forgot to take a picture?!?!?

Here is a picture of one of my helpers (along with her favorite bear Radar) and some of our finished product:

DSC_3581

We actually ended up make 16 8-oz (half-pint) jars.  I gave several away as end of the year gifts for Natalie’s teachers at preschool, we enjoyed one ourselves, and I took one to Bible Study this morning with a loaf of Ukrop’s English Muffin bread I picked up at Martin’s this morning.  Yum!

The jam was so easy to make, and taste so yummy that I am actually contemplating going out to a berry patch again this weekend so we can make more for ourselves and gifts throughout the year.

Are any of you experienced canners?  What is your favorite thing to can?  Do you keep it all for your family or do you share it as gifts?  How do you determine how much to can to save for a year?

New Tony’s Pizza Coupon = Good Deal at MARTIN’S

tonys-pizza2-300x195

Here is a link to the Tony’s website for a coupon for $1 off any 2 Tony’s Pizza Products.  The Tony’s Pizza for One are on sale this week (thru 5/22) at MARTIN’s 10 for $10.  That means you can buy two for $1.  I have to admit these aren’t  as good as delivery or homemade pizza, but they make for a quick and easy lunch for the kids.

Kroger Catalina Deal

images

I can’t believe I forgot to mention this last night when I posted about my afternoon shopping trip to Kroger.  But I noticed that I received a $3 off your next order Catalina -compliments of Scrubbing Bubbles.  I did a little research on-line and discovered that there is a $3 Catalina for buying the Scrubbing Bubble Power Sprayer.  They were already on sale for $6.02 and I was able to use a $5 coupon from the 4/11 SS.  To then get a coupon for $3 off my next purchase makes this a great money maker.  I am going to try to go back and buy more today!

Wednesday Shopping Trip – Part II

I hadn’t really shopped anywhere in the last few weeks.  I am still subscribing to The Grocery Game for Kroger.   I noticed that there were some good deals on cleaning supplies and for OxiClean.  I was looking for a good deal on OxiClean after I got several comments about how good it worked for others after I shared my laundry woes in this post.  The girls and I hit Kroger, but I realized when I was unpacking my purchases that I picked up the wrong marinade.  I may try to go back tomorrow or Friday and swap it out for the one on sale.  That is what happens when you have two kids with you and it is really close to nap time.

This is a picture of what I was able to pick-up:

DSC_3578

  • French’s Worchestershire Sauce: $0.59

  • Mrs. Dash Marinade - $1.69 (not the one I meant to pick-up)

Final Price (after sales, coupons, before tax): $7.08

Total Savings: $32.67 (82%)

Wednesday Shopping Adventure – Part I

Megan and I visited MARTIN’S this morning while Natalie was at preschool.  I really needed to pick-up a few things because Natalie’s preschool was having an end of the year picnic and I didn’t have any bread for sandwiches and decided I would pick-up some extra snacks for the picnic.

I also wanted to check out some of the deals that I was unsure of the price of in my last post.  I noticed when I was walking into the store that at the entrance where there was a pile of sale ads there was a disclaimer saying that the Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System was misprinted.  The ad read Buy 1 Get 1 Free.  The disclaimer stated that it should have been advertised as on sale for $9.99 each.  I have edited my spreadsheet to reflect the change.

I did pretty good at MARTIN’S today.  It really helped that I was able to use some of the coupons that were mailed out to Richmond residents this week.  I also redeemed a Catalina for $2 off my next purchase I received Sunday night when I got off work and bought 3 packages of Sure-Jell so that we could make strawberry jam.  (I’ll talk about that in another post.)

Here is a picture of my purchases and the breakdown of my shopping trip (with my shopping partner):

MARTIN’S Deals and Coupon-Match-ups for 5/16-5/22/10

Martin's_Logo
I am sure you got the coupon booklet in the mail that was sent out to all residents in areas where a new MARTIN’S has opened.  I was inundated at work on Sunday with the $25 gift card with a new or transferred prescription coupon.  I understand that it is a great deal, but it brought in more business than I was staffed for and made things a little crazy.  It is because of this I want to remind you or ask you to always be courteous to the employee when you hand them a stack of coupons.  If the employee (at any store) has trouble scanning the coupon don’t be defensive, remember you have looked at that coupon several times and they are just now looking at it and can’t remember your entire grocery order.  Also, please remember that although the MARTIN’S employees are the same from Ukrop’s (for the most part) they have had to deal with policy changes, new hours or shifts, new cash registers (which are older technology-wise than what they had with Ukrop’s the “new” registers are similar to what Ukrop’s had in the early 90’s), a new phone system, and new computer systems.  The transition has not been flawless – that would be shocking if it was.  It is stressful and frustrating (especially when shopping with little ones) that they have moved around merchandise, have crowded shelves, and those obtrusive “shelf talkers” all over the place, but please be nice to your cashier they are just trying to do their job.

Ok, now to step down from my soapbox.  :)

The mailed coupon booklet has coupons that have specific dates to get you in the store every week for the next few weeks.

The following coupons are valid for this week:
$3 off your order of $30 or more
$1 off a meat purchase of $5 or more
Free Turkey Hill Ice Cream (56 oz) with a $15 minimum purchase
$1 off a produce or floral purchase of $5 or more
$1 off a seafood purchase of $5 or more (excludes sushi)
$1 off Nature’s Promise Purchase with a $15 minimum purchase
$25 MARTIN’S Gift Card with any new or transferred prescription (read the fine print)
$1 off health or beauty care purchase with a $15 minimum purchase

There are some good deals this week without coupons like the London Broil for $1.99/lb or a dozen eggs for $0.79.  Click here to look at an on-line version of the ad (note the page numbers on-line do not match the page numbers in the printed ad.)  I am only listing the deals in my spreadsheet that have a coupon available – and that is a lot!

These are the guidelines that I have read and figured out so far for MARTIN’S coupon policy:

  • MARTIN’S will double manufacturer coupons up to $0.50 everyday.

  • MARTIN’S will only double one “like” manufacturer coupon per customer per day.  (This means that even if you buy two bags of frozen veggies and have two coupons only one will double the other will be honored at the face value.)

  • MARTIN’S will “double” the difference of a coupon with a value of $0.51-$0.99 and $1 to give you up to $1 off.  (I have had $0.55 coupons that “doubled” $0.45 giving me $1 off.)

  • MARTIN’S does accept internet printable (IP) coupons up to a face value of $5, they do not accept IP coupons for a “free” item.  This includes buy one get one free.

  • You must buy both items to get the free item with buy one get one free promotions. (You can’t buy one item at “half price”.)

  • If you are buying 2 items with a buy one get one free promotion you can still use a coupon that covers both items.
